What's Going on?
Buck is tame. He is owned by François and Perrault. He is made part of a dogsled team.
Spitz leads the dogsled team. He is wild.
This is Spitz one day having lunch. (It's a rabbit.)
As you can probably tell, Spitz does not like Buck.
Buck does not like Spitz either.
One day Spitz and Buck get into a fight.
When wild dogs fight, it is often a fight to the death.
As you can imagine, blood was everywhere.
The other hungry wolves were quietly waiting to see who won the fight, so they could feast on the remains of the loser.
To everyone's surprise, Spitz lost the fight.
After Spitz died, the other hungry wolves didn't have to wait any longer. They all had their feast.
And Buck won!
